Quick tip to add power to your presentations
By Jim Logan • May 10th, 2007 • Category: Lead Generation ContentThe common way to crate a presentation is to write it in the order it’s given - slide 1, slide 2, slide 3…But this is not the most effective way to prepare a presentation or get the greatest impact. The best way to create a presentation is to write the last slide first.
The last slide of a presentation is where everything comes together. It’s where you reveal your call to action and direct the recipient to do something with the information you’ve presented. It’s the reason you presented.
Write the last slide first and then create the slides necessary to build overwhelming support and cause to support your call to action. The purpose of each slide before the last is intended to build momentum and give compelling reason to act.
BTW…Writing from the call to action backwards is the technique I use to write copy of all types – sales letters, flyers, postcards, websites, etc. This simple tip will provide greater focus to your copy and increase your response rates.
This works, because it makes a better story. A great story starts with a problem, not a solution. When you’re telling the story, you don’t want to give away the ending too soon. I lost count of how many boring presentations I’ve sat through that would have been seat-gripping, if only the presenter had started at the end and finished at the beginning.
