There are many famous last words to business. These are the sayings that foretell your pending doom. Almost comical, they're real statements spoken at many failed enterprises.

Your radar should remain alert for famous last words and when heard, challenge whoever speaks them. You're likely looking at the leader of the final collapse.

Some of my favorite famous last words follow:

• They'll never find out.
• The new supplier's not that great, but they sure are cheap.
• It's the only product of its kind.
• We only need four month's working capital.
• We.ll be cash flow positive in no time.
• We can float the taxes.
• Tell them we'll deliver next month for sure.
• The interest is high on the loan, but our margins are off the chart!
• We just have to get through this quarter and then everything will be okay.
• Just give it another month and it'll turn around.
• This is a can't lose deal.
• By this time next year, we'll all be millionaires!
• It's perfect! Don't change a thing.
• What's the worse that could happen?
